Tiong Bahru Walkabout -Xinrong & Jason

Simple. Unpretentious. No fuss.
Xinrong & Jason were clear about the type of shoot they wanted to commemorate their wedding.
We did some greens at Botanical Gardens, and a walkabout in the pre-war, hip-again Tiong Bahru estate, where the couple live.
A wonderful experience:)

Slight rainfall but the shoot went on
Egg cartons and Maggie, well-trained star dog:)
With star dog Maggie!

We happened to pass by a fruit stall and stopped for pictures, only to find out from the owner that it is his last day of business, after more than 30 years in Tiong Bahru. Vey sorry to hear that the shop’s glory days are over. Even worse to think that some of our traditions will ultimately disappear with the demise of these small businesses. Uncle still puts his money in a tin can suspended from the ceiling. Jason bought some fruit juice and we made sure to grab some pictures with the man.
And a picture in front of his shop.

How Photographer’s spend their time

Party like a rockstar, truth or myth?

Too many people don’t know what photographers do with their time, or why they take o long to edit the images. The truth is, most of us are stacked with folders and folders of images waiting to be sorted end edited.

It’s easy to say to the photog, “take a shot of me”, “send it to this email address”.. . and… ‘why are you taking so long?’ let me just say.. the process is arduous, it is not professional and not in line with the branding to send an ugly pic, and adds on to the list of 101 other people he/she has to remember to send their pictures to, and the 100 other small task on hand to complete. If we constantly do these ‘favours’, we would be eating grass..seriously.

I remember my days in a daily newspaper, when a reporter’s weekly target was to have 3 stories published. On top of that, I was also assigned to write one or two columns, plus other things like… doing translations, attending meetings.. etc etc.
Readers only remember you writing the columns (cos it has your picture on it). And news articles have a byline. Most think “What do you do the rest of the week?” “Isn’t that such an easy job? Hired to party and write columns?!”
The truth is, I take 30mins to write that column. And time is spend mostly on gathering information for news stories. Haha, the irony of it.

Wedding: Andrea & Lionel

Holy Matrimony: Church of St Teresa

Banquet: Four Seasons Hotel

Wedding: Edalene & Gerald. The Grace Kelly Dress

I learnt during the wedding that Edalene & Gerald’s favourite phrase is ‘awesome’. So forget about depending on a photo booth company to provide live feeds of guest pics on screen. The lovebirds, who both in the advertising industry, got their friends to twitter/facebook pics of their wedding, like live updates, and projected it on screen. All they needed was an internet connection!

Thoughts 2011

Year end. A time for recollection.

I am grateful to you, my clients, for trusting and letting me wholeheartedly into your lives, for keeping in touch and bringing our relationships beyond business level – cooking dinner, planning a hike!

And for the assignments that took me on wonderful adventures around the world. And the editor who makes me feel like I’ve won a ticket to Charlie’s Chocolate factory.

Please, I couldn’t have asked for more.

Two great weddings, a wonderful husband and new family.
Friends, who have been with me all the way and all these years.

I’m not the best with such expressions. But those of you know, and thank you for the journey:)
