Zubaidah
Audience, Aditi Shivaramakrishnan
On Zubaidah, I sat next to her for seven months as an impressionable young intern journalist ten years ago and admired greatly for her style, her hustle, her seeming independence. I was 18, waiting for my promised adult life to start, and she seemed a woman constantly in motion, with places to be, people to meet, stories to tell.
Through Mindy’s portrait of Zubaidah in prayer, dressed in a white garment, I witnessed a moment of stillness at the core of a vivacious being.
